The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards are presented by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The Alliance is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to identify students with exceptional artistic and literary talent and present their remarkable work to the world through the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The Awards give students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. Students across America entered nearly 320,000 original works in 2020 in 28 different categories of art and writing.

Students may be awarded an Honorable Mention, Silver, or Gold Key for their submissions. A selection of regional Gold Key Winners advance to the National level of this contest held in New York City
October
Students must create an account through the Scholastic Art & Writing Official Website (linked above) and start collecting images of works they may want to submit in their Google Drive Portfolios
November
Students and teachers meet and discuss proposed entries and identify any necessary revisions needed. Students must start uploading their entries to their account page through the contest's official website. Permission paperwork is sent home to Parents or Guardians to review and sign allowing the student to participate in this contest
December
After work and written submissions are proofed and agreed upon by both student and teacher and paperwork has been signed and collected, teachers will submit student work for review
